You've always wanted to setup your own web site but you've never understood how to get started. It does take quite a few steps but it is not very complicated. I'll walk you through the process and provide some tips along the way. I use GoDaddy for domain registration, WebHost4Life for hosting and Community Server or SubText for a blogging engine.

I get this question quite a bit. You're going to begin seeing a pattern in my standard answer: "Whichever brand you are more comfortable with." You can order from a major manufacturer, buy from a chain store, build your own, or buy from a boutique - local or online. If all else fails, get a Dell.

Before connecting your new Dell desktop (or whatever brand you prefer) to the internet, or any other network for that matter, you must make sure that you are running some type of personal firewall. I know many of you may be thinking "Duh!", but believe me there are many people out there who don't find the previous statement as obvious.

Along with building web sites I have also become the unofficial system administrator, software installer, hardware installer, network technician, and basic troubleshooter for all my friends and family. However, because I don't have an unlimited amount of free time I sometimes have to leave victims with only a few words of advice and a list of URLs.
